Listen to Ambulance EP

Front End Synthetics is extremely proud to present as it’s debut vinyl release, the eponymous second EP by electronic outfit Ambulance. With the success of their critically acclaimed first EP on U:mack Productions, an album in the pipeline, and ‘The Ground Floor’ (Front End Synthetics’ debut release, now sold out), it appears to be a fine time for this highly talented duo to unleash this, arguably their finest work to date to an eager public.

Not only are they one of the hardest working outfits in Ireland today, but it would also be fair to say that they are releasing some of the finest, most innovative music this country has seen to date, blending highly complex, often staggered hybrid electro beats with a classically honed ear for melody and tune.

Harbour is a two-part rhythmical, mind-melting journey. Part one (depart) is a slower more melody-based song, with a fuzzed-up baseline to grab all attention sensors, before some quite gorgeous sample-work of guitars and soul claps to match, take over completely. Part two (arrive) starts off with the third tempo change in this epic. A much more dancefloor orientated piece with fluttering whinge-like sounds of a synthy-pop nature, and delays flying about the place like it was dubbed in Jamaica in the late 70’s. Ambulance! is our favorite, a warm masterpiece which took a rather unlikely approach to the songwriting technique; Dunk and Trev opting to write the word AMBULANCE! into one of their sequencers (see cover) and turning the result into a rather stunning piece. Basshole, another more danceable up-beat track, includes a squidgy bassline and a great riff comprised of an off-tuned African marimba and gliding synth-chords overlayed with plenty of chopped-up speech samples. All Ambulance music is heavily layered to the extent that the overall effect can easily be lost, yet they nail it every time.
